The Golden Disk Awards is a Korean Pop Awards show where the most popular K-Pop music from the past year are selected and celebrated.
Since its inaugural event in 1986, the Golden Disk Awards has been recognized for its legitimacy over the past 26 years, thus earning its nickname as the “Korean Grammy Awards,” and becoming the most sought-after prize by musicians.
Designed by Professor Kim Soo-Hyun, the trophy is called “Statue of a Woman Playing a Reed Instrument.”
Super Junior holds the record for most awards won (with 13 awards), followed by SG Wannabe, Shin Seung Hun, Girls’ Generation and Shinhwa.
BEAST took home the MSN International Award at the 26th Golden Disk Awards. Who will it be this year at the 27th edition of the awards?
The Grand Prize (Disk Daesang) is awarded to the performer of the best of the best full-length album from the “Records of the Year.”
Girls’ Generation took home the Grand Prize in Song of The Year award for their song “The Boys” at the 26th Golden Disk Awards, held in January 2012.
KARA took home the Best K-Pop Artiste award in year at the 26th Golden Disk Awards, held in Osaka, Japan in 2011.
The awards are given based on the total combined sales volume of the albums, songs, and judges’ votes.
Artistes who released their albums after December 2011, as well as albums and songs that are released or sold between January 2012 an December 2012 will be qualified for the awards.
